My boyfriend is a longtime, hardcore Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. Needless to say, he was affixed to the television today watching his beloved team play the Colts. Well, after a few scary moments when it seemed the Colts would benefit from the last minute Bettis fumble, the Colts' kicker missed the possible score tying field goal...and the Steelers triumphed. My boyfriend was overjoyed, thrilled, on cloud nine...he even came over to kiss me several times...I asked him, "Would you have kissed ...

I have not one, not two, but three paper cuts (more like slashes) on my hands...My initial explanation would be that I was just in a hurry, or overeager to get paperwork together....but I guess klutziness is also a contributing factor. How can such a wimpy cut sting so much, anyway? And in other Klutzy Rose news, I slipped off the bottom stair and hurt my knee (because I wasn’t seeing where I was going). Oh, and it's my Mom's birthday today...she's _____ years old....I won't giv...

Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn has decided to challenge Rick Perry for the Texas Governor’s Chair. She has angered many of the Right with her decision to run as an Independent. This is some of what she said during her announcement speech: “I am a Republican. But I know we must set partisan politics aside and do what's right for Texas. That is why I am running for Governor as an Independent. A Texas Independent.” She still needs enough signatures to get on the ballot as a...

I always ask myself, ‘what do I want this new year to bring me?’ But it made me think...wouldn’t it make more sense to ask what I would bring to this New Year? I mean, I cannot just sit back and expect things to happen for me. So this is what I want to bring to 2006: A person who will take her health more seriously. A person who will try to keep ties intact...I was bad at keeping in touch this past year. Someone who will speak up more...who will express ideas and opinions more ...

My boyfriend and I exchanged Christmas gifts yesterday (we wanted to have a special day to ourselves away from family to enjoy this special time). Our gifts to each other included (for me): clothing, earrings, a crock pot, Sixteen Candles movie, and the original Willy Wonka movie...and (for him): Steelers pullover and emblem, James Patterson book, Reese’s peanut butter cups (his fave), face care lotions, and a DVD/CD shopping trip. After we gleefully and oohed and aahed at each of them,...

My boyfriend and I have not Celebrated Christmas with each other yet... gifts still lay under the tinseled tree perfectly wrapped, bows and ribbons intact. We are STILL in anticipation as to what we got each other... The Reason? Well...I think it’s more than one... First off, we did not get to finish shopping for each other...yes, even though we have a few gifts for one another, we did not get to wrap up (bad pun) our Christmas shopping. Instead of having our minds on Christmas all m...

Very interesteing Quiz that interprets your thoughts on Life and the World...thought I'd share it. You scored as Idealist . Idealism centers around the belief that we are moving towards something greater. An odd mix of evolutionist and spiritualist, you see the divine within ourselves, waiting to emerge over time. Many religious traditions express how the divine spirit lost its identity, thus creating our world of turmoil, but in time it will find itself and all things will again b...

Today is World AIDS day, a day set aside for AIDS awareness. I’m not going to state statistics about AIDS, or give a lecture about it, since I am sure most of us are well educated on it. I’d simply like to state my support for those who have been affected by this disease, namely my aunt, who is currently battling AIDS, and also for our fellow JUser, Phoenixboi, who is HIV positive (I hope you don’t mind me mentioning your name). I also stand behind those who tirelessly continue to search...

Recently at our school’s Professional Development Training, some teachers were recognized for their years of service to our school district. Some received 30 year and 25 year pins, or 5, 10, and 15 year certificates. I was honored with completing Five years of Teaching (as of May of this year). Five years already...wow...I am no longer a rookie, but a bona fide, experienced teacher. Doesn’t seem that long since I graduated from the university. This gets me to think back on many things:...

Laughter. The best alternative medicine out there today has soothed and invigorated my body and soul these past few days. Here I was in a bad condition this past week..crying and worrying and wondering when financial and personal matters will get better...questioning whether prescriptions are really helping my stomach ailments and hating the side effects they’ve been giving me....taking my bad situation out on people I love the most... and thinking NOTHING will help me feel better... ...

And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when. I'm stuck at Folsom Prison and time keeps draggin' on. But that train keeps rollin' on down to San Antone.” That song’s been stuck in my head for a few days...you know why? Well, it’s because I am very much looking forward to seeing “Walk the Line”, the movie based on Johnny Cash. The reason for my eagerness doesn’t really have to do with being a big fan of Johnny. It mostly has to do with my b/f being a fan. He has Johnny’s al...

Definition of Notorious (according to the Merriam Webster online dictionary): generally known and talked of; widely and unfavorably known. We don’t have to be celebrities or be splashed out in front of a tabloid to have some sort of notoriety. Everybody has something they are “unfavorably” known for... you know, that one embarrassing or bad thing you do so consistently that your name is forever linked to it. Yes, we are all notorious for something (now, please read this with tongue...

Grandpa, you served your country well during World War II. Even though you were from Mexico, you fought for this country as if it were always your own.You shared stories about your travels abroad and spoke of how you almost lost your hearing when a bullet whizzed by your ear during battle. You carried your love of music to the army by joining the Army band. You came back home to Grandma safe and sound and ready to meet your first son, who was born while you were away at war. You instilled i...

We had amendment elections here in Tx. yesterday, with Amendment 2 being the most controversial. Amendment 2 states that "Marriage in Texas should be a union between one man and one woman." An overwhelming 75% of voters agreed with the Amendment. This makes Texas the 19th state to ban gay marriage in its constitution. State Rep. Warren Chisum, had this to say: "What it really says is people have deep moral convictions, and they're willing to stand up and say that at the ballot box." Am...
