"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." (Letter from Birmingham Jail, April 16, 1963) "I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word." "It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can stop him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty import...
My grandmother has a framed picture of the pope in her living room...He is in his traditional cape and cap...a golden cross hangs pristinely around his neck...he has a look of quiet strength and humility...She has been praying for him today... He is very revered and very much loved by Mexican Catholics... A movie was made many years ago about a boy whose dream was to sing at a papal celebration for him.... A song was made along with the movie...a song that continued to be played for him in...
The media needs to get over this Cheney shooting already....they act as if there is some crazy conspiracy behind the whole thing-like maybe his pal caught him bargaining for oil out in the woods, so the Veep had to but a bullet in him (or some weirdo story like that)... I'm not even a big fan of the man, but cut him some slack....it was an Accident. Period.
We had amendment elections here in Tx. yesterday, with Amendment 2 being the most controversial. Amendment 2 states that "Marriage in Texas should be a union between one man and one woman." An overwhelming 75% of voters agreed with the Amendment. This makes Texas the 19th state to ban gay marriage in its constitution. State Rep. Warren Chisum, had this to say: "What it really says is people have deep moral convictions, and they're willing to stand up and say that at the ballot box." Am...
Today is Mexico's Independence Day. On September 16, 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo feverishly rung the churchbells of the town of Dolores to signal a rebellion against the Spanish colonial crown. This marked the beginning of Mexico's Independence movement. Although I was not born in Mexico, my roots are there. My grandfather was born in Zacatecas, Mexico and my grandmother's family is from there as well. I was almost moved to tears when I walked into my school this morning and heard th...
As some of you may already know, according to the latest Ipsos poll (conducted for the AP), President Bush’s approval ratings are at their lowest. His approval mark is at 43 percent, and only 41 percent of the public say they support his handling of the war in Iraq. During post 911, his job approval rating was close to 90 percent....Wow, that is a shocking change. Other results: only 35 percent of those polled thought our country was headed in the right direction, 45 percent of those suppo...
So, if Hillary wins the Democratic nomination or wins the Presidency (god forbid for some of you), should I expect to hear her constantly being referred to as "b**tch" by the haters? If people want to despise her, fine...you are in your right. But why do ppl always have to drag the b**tch word in when it comes to a powerful woman? Hmmm...maybe if I hear Barack Obama being called a d**k or Mitt Romney being called an a**hole on a regular basis, I'll see the fairness of the b**tch label...
Well, the lauded iPhone is here. Did anyone get one? I was seriously considering one. I don't have a cell phone right now and was looking into buying a quality one. However, there was this little issue I could not get past : the price. I've actually been reading up on this phone this past weekend and have come across two interesting articles. PC World's "The iPhone: Ten Things Apple Did Right, and Ten Things That Need Work" Link It praises the phone for having wonderf...
Maybe you've seen this video. It was shared with us during a professional training...just opens my eyes to how fast our world is changing, how much technology is impacting our world, and the urgent need to prepare our young ones for this type of future. Powerful.
Oprah recently did an interview with Newsweek Link dealing with the opening of her Academy in Africa. Among the subjects brought up to her were the fact that she has gotten criticized for not doing that sort of project here in the U.S. Here is part of the article: Oprah also knows that some people will complain that charity should begin at home, even though she has provided millions of dollars to educate poor children in the United States, especially via her Oprah Winfrey Sch...
As you probably know, Pluto has now officially been demoted to a "dwarf"...stripped of its elite "ninth planet from the sun" status...I know the argument over whether or not it was a planet has long been around...but it's still a bit of a surprise to me that it was officially stripped of its title. Ah well...I guess we'll have to shorten the well known saying to My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nachos...
This gives a new meaning to having a song stuck in your head, doesn't it. (btw, I know the original article is a bit dated, but thought I'd share it, anyway...and if it's been done, let me know!) ********************************************* 'iPods could make you hallucinate' By Mark Prigg, Evening Standard 25 July 2005 Listening to an iPod could leave you with psychological problems, an expert warns. He says exposure to music is causing more cases of musical hallucination, w...
Several days ago a woman in Boston was killed when the car she was riding in was struck by a ceiling tile that fell from the Big Dig Tunnel. It was already known that this tunnel was in poor shape, but nothing had been done about it. Why does it seem that it always takes some sort of tragedy to get the ball rolling on solving a problem? You see this in other circumstances as well, such as the dangerous intersection that doesn't get attention until someone gets in a fiery car crash there,...
I am somewhat divided about this immigration reform. I understand the government's economic concerns about illegal immigrants and their concern for national security. I do believe that immigrants who want to live here should do what they need to do to stay here legally. But I also believe that they come up here for opportunity and a better life, just like many of our ancestors did...and they work their asses off here in laborious jobs that many Americans turn their noses up to (but I'm not...
I read a few articles today about a columnist in NYC (Lenore Skenazy) who allowed her 4th grader son to take a subway by himself from an Upper Eastside store back to their Manhattan home. She gave him a Metrocard, A Map, $20, some change in quarters, and told him "I'll see you at home." The reasoning behind this was that the son wanted to experience independence, so she allowed him to have this experience (he successfully made it home, btw). Needless to s...
