Hope you enjoy my little bits of this and that. :) I can't promise they'll always be interesting. :)

My grandmother has a framed picture of the pope in her living room...He is in his traditional cape and cap...a golden cross hangs pristinely around his neck...he has a look of quiet strength and humility... She has been praying for him today...
He is very revered and very much loved by Mexican Catholics...
A movie was made many years ago about a boy whose dream was to sing at a papal celebration for him....
A song was made along with the movie...a song that continued to be played for him in later visits...
We were glued to the television set during his last visit to Mexico..and I watched in awe as to how he was treated like a superstar...
He is not just a title to them...
He is someone they look up to...
He is their model on how to live a spiritually devout life...
He is their representative...someone who speaks for those whose voices are not always heard...
He is like a father or brother ...
He is very near and dear to their hearts...
I know when he leaves this earth, my grandmother will shed some tears of sadness...
And then it will hit me as to how significant and influential....and how special he was to our faith and our families and our culture...

I pray that he is surrounded by love and warmth and serenity at this moment...I pray very much for that.

I think the most amazing thing about the Pope was that he saw all people for who they were: people. It didn't matter if they were militant extremists, Jews, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, truck drivers, prostitutes, or Donald Trump. He saw that people were people that that ALL people need God in their lives. He reached out to the hurting. He was steeped in the tradition of the Catholic church, yet he was accepting of all at the same time.

Yesterday and today while we've been watching the coverage of his life and death I've been struck by video and stills of John Paul with children, how his eyes would light up and he would hug and kiss them, much like I think Jesus probably did when He was on Earth.

The world has lost a great man of faith today...he was a great example to people of all religions and even though I'm not Catholic, I will miss his world leadership as well.

I agree with you on that...he had a deep affection for young people....many actually called him the young people's pope...

Even though I no longer consider myself of Catholic faith, my thoughts and prayers are with the Pope and the Catholics around the world. He really was the "Great Communicator."

~"He really was the "Great Communicator."~
Yes, he was. He was admired and respected by leaders of different religions....He was the first pope to visit a synagogue..the first pope to visit a mosque...He did a lot to try to initiate unity among people of different religions.

why he was call "a great communicator"? simple answer is the way he communicated with people was based on love that was expressed in the simple way. In the last chance when he was standing in front of people, no word he could say, but it told us a lot: in the end love no need word, but an action.

very true Gabriel...even during that last public appearance when he couldn't talk and was obviously in pain, he still managed to move his faithful audience by his simple presence and blessing...

What John Paul II said about war. In a speech in 1982, he said: "War should belong to the tragic past, to history: it shoudl no place on humanity's agenda for the future." This statement should be written in our heart.

In his last public appearance and at the moment he went away I said to my friend: "the tears people cry for him could feel and ocean and clean the way to heaven for him to walk in..." Then, I remembered what he said in August 2002 when he ended his Mexican trip by quoting a popular song: "I go, but I do not leave. Although I go, in my heart I remain." Yes, he's gone, but he does not leave. His memories and dreams are still here with us....
