Hope you enjoy my little bits of this and that. :) I can't promise they'll always be interesting. :)
Well, in my opinion anyway.

“There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more...”

The above is an excerpt from “In My Life” (written by Lennon/Mccartney), my favorite song from the Beatles. I love its sentimentality and its sweet melody...I love everything it has to say...it holds a lot of meaning for me.

As personal as it is to me, I can be objective and say it is probably not THE best song from them. I’m going to give that title to Hey, Jude, the song Paul wrote for John’s son, Julian:

“Hey Jude, don’t make it bad.

Take a sad song and make it better.

Remember to let her into your heart,

Then you can start to make it better.”

It’s the type of song you dedicate to someone to show you are thinking about them, to show you care, to show you will be there for them. It has such a universal message behind it.

So, my list of top 3 favorites goes like this: “In my Life”, “Yesterday”, and “Hey Jude” with the Best Beatles song being “Hey, Jude”.

I’m sure I’ll have some people, disagree.

I have a few friends that you could argue Beatles stuff with all day...as for myself, I like many of their songs...but as for favorites, I'm not sure. "Hey Jude", I suppose...as you've said, it's got a universal message to it.

Oh, I'm sure I'll have many who disagree...I look forward to their thought on it!

Hey Jude is awesome, but "When I'm 64" gets my title.

Excellent Beatles songs:

Across the Universe:
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe

The Long and Winding Road:
Many times I've been alone
and many times I've cried
Any way you'll never know
the many ways I've tried

But still they lead me back
to the long winding road
You left me standing here
a long long time ago
Don't leave me waiting here
lead me to your door

The Ballad of John and Yoko:
Drove from Paris to the Amsterdam Hilton
Talking in our beds for a week
The newspapers said
say what're you doing in bed
I said we're only trying to get us some peace

Christ you know it ain't easy
You know how hard it can be
The way things are going
They're going to crucify me

Lady Madonna:
Lady Madonna,
Children at your feet
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet.

Who finds the money
When you pay the rent?
Did you think that money was Heaven sent?

All You Need is Love:
There's nothing you can make that can't me made
No one you can save that can't be saved
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time
It's easy

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

Penny Lane:
Penny lane is in my ears and in my eyes.
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit, and meanwhile back.
Penny lane is in my ears and in my eyes.
There beneath the blue suburban skies,
Penny Lane.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps:
I don't know why nobody told you
How to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you
They bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps

Obla-Di-Obla-Da
Desmond has a barrow in the marketplace
Molly is the singer in a band
Desmond say to Molly, girl I like you face
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da,
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on

Helter Skelter:
When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
And I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
And I get to the bottom and I see you again

Well do you, don't you want me to make you
I'm coming down fast but don't let me break you
Tell me tell me tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer.

A Day in the Life:
Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.

Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
and Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

You've Got to Hide Your Love Away:
Here I stand head in hand
Turn my face to the wall
If she's gone I can't go on
Feeling two foot small
Everywhere people stare
each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say

Hey you've got to hide your love away
Hey you've got to hide your love away

Octopus's Garden:
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus's garden in the shade
I'd ask my friends to come and see
In an octopus's garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade

Revolution:
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out... in
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
Don't you know it's gonna be all right

Apologies for the length of this post...I still left out a ton of my favorites. Haha, but all these songs should definitely be contenders.

I'm not as much a fan of the early Beatles, although I don't hate it, either. My personal favorite might be The Ballad of John and Yoko or A Day in the Life...best, though? That's to difficult to even attempt to answer.

Fool On The Hill

(The Beatles)

Day after day, alone on the hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still.
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool.
And he never gives an answer .....

But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down.
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around.

Well on his way, his head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices, talking perfectly loud.
But nobody ever hears him,
Or the sound he appears to make.
And he never seems to notice .....

But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down.
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around.

And nobody seems to like him,
They can tell what he wants to do.
And he never shows his feelings,

But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down.
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around.

the above is my favorite song

The below is the best.

A Day in the Life
Writers, lead vocals: Lennon, Paul McCartney

(take 1)
[Not the micro of the piano's quite low, is it?
Just keep like the maracas.
You know all those pianos.
OK, you're on.]

[Sugar plum fairy, sugar plum fairy.]

(take 2)
I read the news today oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure
If he was from the House of Lords
I saw a film today oh boy
The English Army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had to look
Having read the book
I'd love to turn you on

Hey, Jude, the song Paul wrote for John’s son, Julian

I'm not sure about this. "Jude" means "Jew."

Other than the ones already named, I nominate "And I Love Her," "And Your Bird Can Sing," "Back in the U.S.S.R.," "Can't Buy Me Love," "Come Together," "Day Tripper," "Drive My Car," "Eight Days a Week," "Eleanor Rigby," "Get Back," "Good Day, Sunshine," "Got to Get You Into My Life," "A Hard Day's Night," "Help!," "Here, There and Everywhere," "I Feel Fine," "I Saw Her Standing There," "I Should Have Known Better," "I Want to Tell You," "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," "If I Fell," "I've Just Seen a Face," "Lady Madonna," "Let it Be," "The Long and Winding Road," "Michelle," "No Reply," "Norwegian Wood," "Nowhere Man," "Old Brown Shoe," "Paperback Writer," "P.S. I Love You," "Something," "Sgt. Pepper's," "She Loves You," "She Said, She Said," "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Taxman," "Ticket to Ride," "Tomorrow Never Knows," "We Can Work it Out," "With a Little Help From My Friends," "The Word," "World Without Love," and "Yesterday."

I think that just about covers it. lol.

Aren't you all glad I didn't post the lyrics for all of these?

'I'm not sure about this. "Jude" means "Jew."'
Not in this case it doesn't. It is well documented that 'Hey Jude' was written by Paul for Julian, son of John and Cynthia (whose marriage was unravelling at the time).

As for Fave vs. Best, well, what is 'Best' in art if not simply that which one likes the most - i.e. one's favourite? For me, that's 'In My Life' - it's succinct yet erudite, profound yet simply expressed, tuneful yet worthy of almost endless repeat listens ... and just when one might become tempted to accuse it of being too conventional, it has an astonishing harpsichord break that lifts it into a different sphere altogether. Pop, yet indispensable.

~Trinite: "When I'm 64" gets my title.~

Nice, song, too.

~Tex: "Across the Universe...Penny Lane"~

Oh, some of my favorites as well!

~Fool On The Hill

Day after day, alone on the hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still.
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool.
And he never gives an answer ..... ~

Moderate, I like the lyrics to this one.

~Mason: Best? I dunno, I just know what I like.~

I know what you mean...it is hard to pick.

~I'm not sure about this. "Jude" means "Jew."~

Actually, the song was titled, "Hey, Julian." Then Paul started playing with the name and came up with "Hey, Jules", which he then turned into "Hey, Jude" because it was a strong sounding name (well, that's what I've read, anyway).

"And I lover her", "Long and Winding Road", "I feel fine" and "Let it Be" are all excellent!

~Aren't you all glad I didn't post the lyrics for all of these?~

lol..well, they would have made for an interesting read.

~Not in this case it doesn't. It is well documented that 'Hey Jude' was written by Paul for Julian, son of John and Cynthia (whose marriage was unravelling at the time).~

You are right, Furry.

Oh, it's a Wonderful song; I love it.

Wow...talk about a topic for debate.

Best top 5:
Let It Be-for the lyrics
Strawberry Fields-most controvertial (cranberry sauce=paul is dead) and the drug references
A Day in the Life-for the chord at the end
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds-for the breakthrough sound

My personal top 5:
Let it Be-it's inspirational
A Day in the Life-for the chord, of course!
Fool on the Hill-great lyrics!
Across the Universe-the song makes you think

Now, who is everyone's favorite?

When I was younger I was obsessed with John Lennon. I was a day late and a few decades short! hehe. Now I would say Paul is my favorite. Together, they were fantastic!

on Oct 01, 2005
Haha...I forgot 1 on each list!

Another for best:
Don't let me Down-it was their last public performance

Another Favorite:
Goodnite-on the third anthonogy...has a BEAUTIFUL horn solo!!

Although I think John was extremely talented, I do like Paul..maybe it's his sunny personality, dunno. lol

My favorite has always been Yesterday.

One of my daycare kids is named Lennon after of course, John Lennon. I told his parents I would have been more impressed if they named him Ringo. That shows dedication. hah!
