When I am here and you are there,
Life is missing something.
I cannot see the smile on your face;
You cannot see the love in mine.
A call or letter cannot take the place
Of a gentle stare, a stroke of the cheek, the scent of your presence.
When I am here and you are there,
I don't affect you as much.
A quirk or laugh isn't as endearing,
An expressed feeling isn't as important as it would be
If you were lying next to me.
When I am here and you are there,
It is hard to make out your face.
Sure I can stare at a photograph.
But does a photograph allow me to
Reach out and touch your every curve and plane?
When I am here and you are there,
I wonder if absence DOES make the heart grow fonder...
Or if absence makes the heart close up little by little,
Only opening up again when we are together.
When I am here and you are there,
Twinges of sadness become a norm,
Longing becomes a constant visitor,
And Tears await me on several nights.
When I am here and you are there,
Hopes and Dreams about our future fill me up,
But it mixes in with Fears and Helplessness
As to when our future will continue.
When I am here and you are there,
Our problems are magnified....
Overshadowing joys we have had face to face.
Our fears play out over and over in our heads,
Blurring out the good that we see in each other.
When I am here and you are there,
The love does not change,
But how we can show it is sadly limited...
Even when we are doing our best
To give our most,
It never seems like enough.
Why am i still here ....
Why are you still there...
