(Just a little nod to Hall & Oates there, in case you didn't know...and the fact that I haven't written anything since late April)
~*~Speaking of music, I had students doing projects on a novel they were reading. One of the projects they could choose to do was to make a CD cover based on the story...and choose songs that connected with the story. Many chose the doo wop songs that had to do with the novel...and of course, you had students who chose today's popular songs. However, I had a few students who surprised me with their song choices. I had one child present Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles, one do Tom Sawyer by Rush, and yet another one do Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. I thought it was pretty cool these 10 and 11 year olds knew songs past their generation, and that they were able to connect these songs to the content of the book (Watsons go to Birmingham, btw).
I asked them where they knew these songs from and I got mentions of mom, dad, older brother, older sister. Some also confessed that they learned some "old" songs from Guitar Hero. Well, however they became fans of this music, it's pretty neat that they have an expanded knowledge of music.
~*~I've been noticing lately that I eat like such a child...a 5 yeard old, even. Snacks are super important to me. When I get home from work, I get the munchies, and though sometimes I do have a piece of fruit, at times I just want something not so very nutritious. So, on top my fridge you will find a box of Rice Krispies snacks, some Fruit Smiley fruit packs, and Goldfish crackers. Inside the fridge, you will find some mini juice drink boxes labeled something like "Juice for Juniors." How funny that as I was about to write this, Chris walks in with a Kids' Pack for me from Burger King. It's pretty weird...maybe I should get more sophisticated tastes. Maybe I should try Caviar or Pate or something...
~*~I've been pretty tired lately (maybe it's the Rice Krispies?). I just cannot get myself to sleep early. Don't know what's going on. At the most, I've gotten maybe an average of 5 hours of sleep a night this week. It stinks. I have been exercising in the evening, and eating after 7...could that be it? Hmmm...I just need to redo the whole bedtime ritual thing. I read at night, and sometimes that lulls me to sleep, but sometimes it doesn't. I shower at night, and again, sometimes that does the trick and sometimes it doesn't. Any tips?
~*~The tiredness might be a contributing factor to my constant clumsiness lately. I have spilled water 4 times in the past two days...so ridiculous. One of the times, I spilled about 5 minutes after the first spill. Sigh...today, I skipped a step on the stairs...I don't know the freak how...and hurt my knee a bit.
I am a klutz...it's a known fact, but this is ridiculous.
~*~ I don't know if clumsiness had to do with the following, but can you believe I baked a dime into one of my pancakes yesterday morning? I was happily making some Hungry Jack flaps, and call on Chris that breakfast is ready. So, as we are both serving ourselves, I notice something shiny sticking out out of one of my pancakes after I had poured some syrup on them. I instantly thought it was a piece of foil, since I had some on the counter, but when I took out the Shiny UFO, I was like, "What the...?" How weird...Chris calmed me down before my paranoia screamed out that it came from inside the Hungry Jack box (which it probably didn't, seen as when I was mixing the thing, the batter was nice and smooth).
This incident still remains a mystery. My theory is that I put the batter saturated spoon down on the counter and the coin got stuck on it. Hmmm...so much for calling Sherlock Holmes.
